You should come play some on our server too sponge!

There are like 75 plug ins, and they are all good ones, nothing that ruins the regular game progression. Maybe it was just offline, it is offline at this moment, did it give you a certain error? You have to sign up at dreadcraft.net

I am running a town called Lionville on that server it is pretty small right now... I havent had a ton of time to play either :(

I am getting very obsessed with minecraft lately, have any of you played it? I am on dreadcraft.net, which is a cracked server so you can play with a cracked version of the game.- kerbykong

Yeah, the second one... Joining a clan would be easy but getting a leadership role in a clan that's controlled by a NPC leader would be difficult. That would do three things... First it would add a repeatable goal to the game (ie, take over a NPC clan). Second it would encourage players to log in occassionally (to make sure their NPCs are doing OK). Third it would minimize the amount of new clans being started by players but never checked up on after.
replied to Wormy โ Creating a Digital World Blog
I will probably have both a separate website and a launcher on this site, like the Mario game has.
I have it doing username verification with CND usernames though. As for the clan thing, I want to allow players to play (the) major leadership role in the clans. I see that as a pretty important part to making the dynamic world relevant to the players. I want the gameplay to be tied to the dynamic world in a useful manner... Why? Well, when Ultima Online came out (late 90's) it had a whole eco-system set up spawning mobs, flora, and resources according to a realistic system much like the one I am trying to achieve. But at release players totally destroyed the eco-system by killing all the mobs and harvesting all the trees, so they had to go back to using a very simple respawn system just so players could continue to play. The players didn't notice at all though, because the eco-system did not have any real effect on their gameplay. The two design lessons to learn from this would be a) respawn resources and mobs at a rate that adapts with how fast they are being destroyed, and b) if you are going to add a feature make sure players notice it and can enjoy it.
As of the progress at the moment, all you can do to effect the clans war is to kill NPCs to hurt that NPC's clan.Creating a Digital World Blog
I have put up a new post on my blog with an overview of a feature for my new RPG that I think is really exciting. I was not kidding when I said I am creating a digital world! My goal for this new game is to create a living breathing world that evolves on its own and can be shaped by players.
This feature, dynamic clans, is the first step towards that:
http://creatingaworld.blogspot.com/2012/01/dynamic-warfront-clans.html
I would appreciate advice and suggestions directly regarding this new feature and also regarding the map and how to improve it... It is pretty rough right now.- JeanMarc
Yeah, but that's why there should be a mod approval or something, or meeting certain requirements for user created clans.

Wormy, do you have an official title yet?
Will you eventaully come back to CND and find a way to revive it? We miss you (and the servers). I think you could somehow put CND's current sprites into this new animation system of yours. - JeanMarc
Okay, here's by your last blog post talking about Zelda what I think about it.
If you can't tell yet, WORG is meant to be an open world action RPG, which is the sort of game I like, which is why I mostly agree with this article.
I agree. One of the things I liked in Dragon Quest IX (turn based RPG, but one of the DS games that looks the most like WORG) was that I could (after a certain point (after getting the boat)) get to almost anywhere in the game, some places where I was WAY too underpowered/underleveled. It gave a challenge to survive and gave me some fun, as I figured one of my favorite things in these games is exploring.
I do not especially agree that Zelda should be 'harder', because the difficulty of modern games has been dictated by the modern player: We want easy games. I am annoyed by it too sometimes, but it is something we have to come to terms with for big titles like Zelda.
Well I, like many other gamers, think that they should be harder, but that's probably why most modern games have different difficulty levels.
You may feel insulted by his article because in your opinion, the fundemental Zelda is puzzles. Telon notes, Zelda I and II were devoid of puzzles. This is where a contention may created between old and new fans of the series, because older Zelda fans like myself see Zelda fundementally as an action open-world RPG with endless secrets and interests... But that just isn't the direction the series went.
I am a modern Zelda fan. But yeah, in Dragon Quest IX, there's the grotto feature, which can make you search for hours to find the grotto without a guide. Yeah, open world with lots secrets to discover has always been a favorite by me.
The rest, well, I can't say much. By the way, are we going to see a beta soon? At least like, with one class for now? Yeha, I think that for the first version, just as a sneak peek, one spell, one weapon, set equipment, one class and maybe online though.

I actually was able to finish the first 3 of the '4 things I am working on now'. But the forth, which is bug fixes, I have not done. I've actually created plenty of new bugs. So next time I have time to work on the game it will be the first thing I address.

@JeanMarc: You hit the nail on the head as always, it will be fully online but that is not programmed yet as of now.

@rilezTNUKI: If anyone is interested in working on CND they are welcome to email me about it. I don't expect there will be any interest however, because it is scripted in Actionscript 2 which is an outdated programming language.
@Absent0: That is exactly what I am going for... Certain areas could be designed by a map designer and used as towns. How far apart they will be will be up to the designers, and any areas between these towns that are not designed by the map designer will be automatically filled with trees and NPCs. Actually this is already in the game now (programmed)! :-) Right now its rather boring, with just 1 type of tree, NPC, and grass.
I won't get a lot of time to work on the game again until mid February, but I am happy with what I got done over winter break and I am looking forward to sharing it with you all and getting your input around February.replied to gabrieljamh โ Mario Multiplayer Online all servers are all offline games?
If you are getting no-ip.org ads, try clearing your browsers catch. What happens is, every time the servers are DOWN it gives you advertisements. The advertisements will continue even if the servers come back up, so you wont even know when they are back up until your cache clears or the page's cache expires. So each time you check to see if the games up again or not, the cache must be cleared. Please let me know directly when the servers are down.

Hi guys, I have a few new posts on my blog about my progress in making my new online RPG.

Also I am going to post a short description of the game world/lore for this new RPG and I would like your help choosing a name for the game world. I think I will be using the name of the world in the title of the game, so this is a pretty big deal. :-) More info on that will be soon.- Wormy

The classes you are seeing as an Admin are tentative... I have been drawing them out on paper over and over trying to figure out how to work it so that I can keep things interesting, open, and balanced. It is pretty difficult though... I have spent a lot of time on that, but it probably won't be in the actual game for a while... Too many other things to do!

Yes I will change the name of the game! Don't worry. Worg is just the project name. Honestly I haven't come up with anything really good yet. I am up for suggestions but don't get your hopes super high I probably wont decide for another year...
Those are some great finds for making characters! I went with this very standardized character for that reason, so we can maximize the amount of characters available and players can feel comfortable making characters to be submitted.
If you are curious, right now I am working on the zoning system. It is going to be like Zelda IV, where there are 'zones' and when you reach the end of one zone and push against the side of it the screen pans across to the next zone. Also part of this is 'empty maps'. For zones that are 'empty' some NPCs and trees will be randomly placed inside of them. This will create a nicer effect than what you see now in CND where you 'fall forever'. Although I won't work on this right away, I plan for the creatures to become more difficult as you venture further out away from the center of the world (zone 0,0)... Somewhat like in Realm of the Mad God. I would appreciate suggestions and comments concerning this.replied to Wormy โ Like how CND has 30 different characters? Try 50.
When I get closer to finishing the game maybe I can show JeanMarc and Kerby how to import the spritesheets and they can be submitted via them. :-) I posted some musings on RPG combat roles on the blog tonight and last night I almost completed switching Worg to using Mario's World Editor. What I would like to do is release a more complete version of Mario sometime in the next few months, probably called 'Mario Multiplayer Racer'. From there I will shift more focus to Worg.

Check out my latest blog post where I describe my new RPG and its high capacity for different characters:

It has taken me less than 1/2 an hour to import over 50 different characters already into the system! If only I had known how to do this while making Chip N Dales MMORPG, huh?- Wormy

You will have to learn how to do some very basic programming in order to use the new world editor because all the objects have associated code. For instance, this is a thwomp, the boxy looking mario creature who tries to crush mario when he comes close...
As you may be able to tell, it is basically a loop. the variable _status changes from hover to fall to wait as the thwomp falls to the ground to try and smash mario and then rises back up. _status and _saveY are both variables specific to this object only... The other variables are built into the game (things like _y is the Y coordinate of the object, and _gravity is how much gravitational pull that object has...).
I will post some videos explaining how to write this stuff before I release the editor but I wont be allowing anyone to make releasable maps until they understand it on some level.
EXPLAINATION set up object to hover in midair waiting for mario
IF START
THEN PHYSICS
AND NAME stone
AND POSE dazed
AND ENEMY
AND this._gravity=0
AND this._status=hover
AND this._saveY=this._y
EXPLAINATION wait for player to get close
IF this._x-player._x-100
AND this._status=hover
THEN POSE default
AND this._gravity=-5
AND this._status=fall
EXPLAINATION play sound effect as object falls
IF this._vy<-5
AND this._status=fall
THEN this._vy=0
AND this._status=wait
EXPLAINATION create dust as you pound ground and go back up
IF this._vy=0
AND this._status=wait
THEN this._vy=2
AND this._gravity=0
AND PARTICLE _amount=5 _vx=10 _vy=-3 _variance=5 _size=7
AND PARTICLE _amount=5 _vx=10 _vy=-3 _variance=5 _size=7
EXPLAINATION done going back up. now wait again for player
IF this._y<this._saveY
THEN this._status=hover
AND this._y=this._saveYreplied to Wormy โ New Game Blog by CND's Creator
Okay sponge. It will be a while before the World Builder is ready but I will keep it in mind. This builder is MUCH more complex, but makes more sense than the CND one. I will be making some youtube videos explaining how to use it when it is ready for people to use.

I've put in a good 15 hours into the World Builder in the last week, but there's not much to show for it. Mostly what I was doing is changing the way tiles are handled... Before I had tiles saved individually as JPG's and they all had to be loaded in separately. I realized that loading in over 1000 tiles just was not working, something was shitting out. So I now have a larger tilesheet JPG loaded in and the game client splits it up into tiles. During this transition I have spent a lot of time fixing random bugs, reorganizing my code, etc... I am realizing that I will probably be using this World Builder for the next 5-8 years for both my big projects (Mario World Online and WORG2) and I want it to be really good.
replied to Wormy โ New Game Blog by CND's Creator
Sponge, all the attacks are automatic launch towards a target, with homing. Like a traditional MMORPG (EQ). So far there are only three attacks, two sword attacks and a fireball. You will be able to dodge enemy NPC attacks. So the players focus will be focused on placing their character in a location to dodge enemy spells while still having a clear shot of their target. The rest of their focus will be on their health bars and skills.
As a small update... I have not done much work on the game in the last month and haven't added any blog posts, but the game is coming along. Right now I am working on the Mario World Online World Editor and I will soon integrate WORG2 into this world builder. I figure that since both game worlds are very similar (tile + object based) that there is no reason to have separate world editors. Of course, Mario World Online is an MO Arcade Sidescroller and WORG2 is an MORPG so the gameplay will be very different.replied to Wormy โ New Game Blog by CND's Creator
And I won't be doing it turn based. It is tempting for sure, but I have never enjoyed turn based games very much. It will use a targetting system like most MMOs have but more simplistic to give it more of an arcade feel.
replied to Wormy โ New Game Blog by CND's Creator
I haven't given up on the official CND game, but there's nothing in particular I want to do with it right now. If theres any small updates it needs let me know I could probably look into it, but the programming language it is written in is old. :-)
I will work more on the 'Mario World Online' game that I started last year sometime in the future, which I sorta see as the successor to CND, but we will see where that goes. Right now it has vastly superior world building tools, but no content/gameplay.
